In a world full of distractions, here are some steps I’ve taken to refine my deep work and retain my focus during my 8:00-17:00.
- Windows focus session timer – the new update for Windows 11 gave us a Pomodoro-style timer, and access to Spotify and Tasks app all within the same app. I usually aim for 1-2 hours of deep work per day
- Here’s my workflow with focus sessions:
- Set the task(s) for the next 25 minutes
- Work with no distractions until the timer goes off
- Set 5 minutes until the next focus session
- In these 5 minutes
- 20-20-20 rest for my eyes from the screen
- Stay hydrated
- Reflect on work completed, plan on the task for the next 25 minutes
- In these 5 minutes
- Here’s my workflow with focus sessions:
- How I limit distractions
- Select apps that will turn off notifications during focus sessions
- Phone on grayscale mode
- Outlook and Teams minimized
- Focus Time blocked out in Outlook calendar
- Artists I’m currently listening to during these focus sessions
- Nigel Good
- Tony Anderson
- Kidnap
- Nothing,nowhere.
